Why does Ford treat US customers this way?

@Robert
Short beds are fine for occasional big items, but if you can’t lay down a full sheet of plywood with the tailgate closed, it’s not a real work truck.

@Robert
I had an ‘86 S10 single cab with a long bed and loved it. Could haul anything. New trucks are way bigger but somehow less useful.

Yeah, the newer trucks are massive. The floor on a stock F-350 is waist-high, and the sides are too tall to reach over.

@Robert
I just got a C-10, and parked it next to a new RAM 1500. The C-10 looks tiny, yet has so much more usable space.

@Robert
A lot of folks buying trucks today don’t actually need them.

It’s the same reason why coupes and manuals are disappearing here—not enough people buy them.

Part of it is also that buyers of new cars are getting older.

Smaller cars and manuals have been dying everywhere, not just here. In the UK, automatics are now the majority too.

People who want them refuse to pay new car prices.

If Ford sold a true small truck here, I’d have bought one. Toyota’s the only real choice up here.

Trucks are basically status symbols now in the US. They’re mostly used for driving people around, not hauling stuff.

At least we got the Ranger back.

It’s because people didn’t buy enough single cabs. Why would Ford sell them here?

“They should offer X, Y, and Z. It’ll totally sell like crazy!”

Toyota and Nissan do the same thing. They both sell small diesel trucks in Mexico.

Now that’s what I call a truck!

That’s so much better than what we get here in the US.

Yep, that’s what the post is all about.

Though they have weaker diesel engines there; they don’t pack the same punch as a full-size truck here.

A single cab F-150 has a 123-inch wheelbase. Not much different from a single-cab Ranger.

If they made one with a manual, crank windows, diesel, and a basic transfer case, I’d lose my mind.
