Did it have a floor-shift for 4WD? That sounds like a dream truck without all the extra electronics.
Yup!

I had a 2019 and a 2021 Ranger XLT. Both were 4x4 with a 6ft bed, but now Ford only offers crew cabs for 2024. I’d have loved a standard cab with a longer bed, but sadly, those days are gone.
Subaru owner here—hate that we’re stuck with CVTs.

Actually, the new Rangers come with a 6-speed manual, too.
@Raymond
Where?
Emissions law. The whole reason the US has such big trucks is because the current emissions law is working against itself. It would cost Ford an exorbitant amount of money to produce an engine and exhaust clean enough to get a small truck to pass emissions, and when the manufacturer has to spend money, that will trickle down into how much the consumer is paying. They know nobody will buy a small truck for the price they’d have to list it for, so they just don’t.
I have been saying they need to make the ultra base model. A 2.3L single cab, 4x2 or 4x4 with a stick.

My old ‘95 didn’t even have a radio or power steering.

My ‘07 XL too. Love that truck.
@Evangeline
That’s why I stick with older vehicles. They have the features I actually want.
@Evangeline
The big truck companies don’t want to make those in the US anymore. Just not worth it for them.

Don’t care. I still want one.
It’s the same reason why coupes and manuals are disappearing here—not enough people buy them.

Most truck buyers don’t need an actual truck, which is why small trucks have all but vanished.
Need a proper truck? Go Japanese.

I used to think this too, but with the right setup, you can carry long items in a short bed by resting them on the cab. Also, most folks want that second row for kids.
I mean yes, I actually bought a rack for this purpose, that way you don’t need a towel.
racks are common where I live, but not as much elsewhere, idk why most brands don’t offer them from factory like some do in Australia… they are actually quite useful
That being said, the extra ft of bed still makes a world of difference to me
My company LDVs are short box F150s… They are a massive pain, gotta make multiple trips for a job a slightly longer box could have done in one, when trips are measured in hours… It is not cost effective
There is still things that don’t fit in short boxes and can’t go over the cab
@Robert
Got a link to that rack?

I’m out plowing snow at the moment, but it’s the aluminum protector by WestCan Manufacturing. Super popular where I’m at!

Some single cabs do have child seat anchors and airbag switches. It’s tight, but doable.
