This is just crazy.
As long as people keep paying extra, dealers will keep charging extra.

Yeah, that’s always the answer when someone asks why a company does something.

Dealerships won’t even be a thing in a few years. Ford wants to get rid of them completely.
@Brandon
Good. I’m tired of knowing exactly what I want and still having to talk to some guy who just wants to sell me whatever’s been sitting the longest. Last time I was there, they tried to sell me a $500 pinstripe because it ‘adds resale value.’ Clowns.

Yep. If you’re paying that kind of markup, you’re letting them win.
New trucks are way too expensive. I’ll drive my 06 until it falls apart. Got my Ranger brand new for 10k back in the day.

How’d you pull that off? Even the cheapest single cab base model was around $15k in 2006. You got a hell of a deal.
Fun fact: Adjusted for inflation, that’d be just over $22k today. That’s barely enough for a Nissan Versa now.
@Joshua
It was a clearance deal. Stick shift, no extras, just basic. They only had two left: white and beige. I took white. I didn’t even know how to drive a manual, my dad had to drive it home. First car ever and I’m still driving it today.
@Murray
Nice. How many miles on it now?

285k. It would’ve been more, but I was away for a couple of years. Sitting that long wasn’t great for it—had to replace some hoses and belts. Runs great now though.
@Murray
Probably one of the cheapest vehicles per mile ever. Love to see it.

These trucks are tanks.
@Joshua
They could absolutely make the same truck today for the same price, but they won’t. That’s not where the money is. Plus, emissions, safety regs, all that.

A big part of why small trucks are huge now is how the EPA rates fuel efficiency. Bigger trucks get more lenient standards, so manufacturers have an easier time meeting targets when they make vehicles a little larger.

And if there were a cheap no-frills option, people wouldn’t buy the overpriced version with all the useless features.
@Joshua
MSRP on my 2000 Ranger XLT SuperCab was $16k and change. Still driving it.

Got a ‘95 and I’ll weld it back together if I have to.
@Emerson
Same here. My Ranger runs just fine, just basic maintenance. The heater in the winter is insane. No AC in the summer, but I live by Lake Superior, so it’s not a big deal.
@Emerson
Just spray some oil underneath every year so it doesn’t rust apart.
