I’m really close to buying a 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid XL, but I’m worried about its reliability. If you own one, how has it been? Any major problems? How does it do in the snow? And what’s the deal with repair costs and finding parts? Would love to hear your experiences.
It’s still under warranty, so a lot of issues aren’t a problem yet. I’ve had mine for over a year with no problems. Some had a battery harness issue, but that seems to be fixed now.
It’s okay in the snow, like most front-wheel-drive cars—not great but manageable.
Ford’s hybrid system is similar to what the Prius uses, so it’s proven to be reliable. Getting work done can still be a bit specialized, but more mechanics are familiar with hybrids now.
I’m at 26K miles and have only had a recall for the side airbags, which took some time to get fixed right. There was also a recall about the turn signal clicking sound when a bulb goes out—small stuff.
I love my Maverick, especially the 40-45 MPG I get. For snow, I use slippery mode, and it does the job.
If you’re curious, there’s a review here you might find helpful:
The Maverick hybrid hasn’t been out long enough for us to know its long-term reliability, but it uses tech from Ford’s Escape hybrids, which have been reliable. The only major issue was a recall on some battery cables.
We’ll have to wait a few more years to get a full picture, but so far, so good.
@Christine01
It was the main battery cable issue, but it’s been resolved in newer models. Low-speed braking problems have been mentioned, but it’s not something that will leave you stranded.
@Christine01
When you say “leased,” I think you meant “licensed,” but yeah, it’s still the same reliable hybrid system.

Ford didn’t even license it; they just used Toyota’s hybrid patents and modified their old 2.5L engine. It’s a solid, reliable setup.
@Luka
Interesting. So Ford’s hybrid system in the Maverick comes from a mix of Toyota’s hybrid patents and an old Mazda engine design? Sounds like a good blend.

Pretty much. I’ve heard they even use the same transaxle manufacturer as Toyota for their hybrids. It’s reliable tech.
@Luka
If the Escape uses the same system, why wouldn’t the Maverick be just as reliable?
@Luka
That 2.5 engine was a beast. Had one in a Ranger, never had a problem even at 327k miles.

Was that really the Duratec? I thought it was a different engine.

Honestly, I’m not sure.
@Christine01
Exactly. I thought it would be better to ask here than to rely on stats from Google. Personal experiences are always valuable.

Yeah, it’s either the best thing ever or a nightmare, depending on who you ask. I love mine but would hate it if I had constant issues.

How was it in an accident? I want something sturdier after my Focus got totaled.

The repair was expensive but covered by insurance. No airbags went off, thankfully. Afterward, I added adaptive cruise control, and now I love it even more.
@hermanbennnet
How did you add adaptive cruise? Through Ford? And was it expensive?

I did it myself. Parts were around $650, but I don’t think dealers will do it due to liability issues.
@hermanbennnet
Thanks for the info!
