I’ve been seeing a lot of problems people are having with these vehicles. I’m in the process of buying a 2024 XLT for my wife. Should I worry? I thought I did enough research, but now I’m starting to doubt myself. Has anyone experienced any issues with their 2024 models?
I wouldn’t worry about buying a 2024. Our 2023 model has 27,000 miles and hasn’t had any issues so far.

Haha, when is it normal to have problems at 27,000 miles? Wait until you reach 40,000 miles. My transmission failed around 47,000 miles and it’s not been the same since the repair.
Get an extended warranty for everything like electrical, mechanical, and the powertrain. I’m on my second transmission replacement, and it works fine after each fix. The only question is if you have time for all the trips to the shop or dealership. If you do, you’ll like this vehicle! I’m a 2019 Expedition Limited owner

Can you share more about the transmission replacements? When was the first one and the second one? I’m not at the second replacement yet…

The first was at 52,000 miles and the second at 79,000 miles. They are still approving the warranty and will order the transmission soon. Once it’s available, they’ll let me know. At 52k miles, my Expedition was back for 4 months! This time, it’s still drivable, so I returned it to use while waiting for the transmission. I hope they don’t need to replace it every 20k miles

Oh no, I’m at about 78k miles right now without any warranty…
I realized that everyone with issues shares them online, but those without problems don’t talk about how great the vehicle is.

With that logic, reviews for almost anything would be useless and ignored from the start…
Anything you buy can have potential problems. If you think the issues people are reporting with their 2024 models are common, maybe look at another brand. I’m very happy with my 2024 XLT Max.

I’ve noticed not many people are posting problems with the 2024 models yet, but maybe they aren’t old enough. I’ve stuck with Ford because they usually try to fix these issues.

Absolutely, and depending on where you live, it might be a good time to buy one. Check my post history for details on my deal.

Ford didn’t help us at all. Our car was under warranty when we started having transmission problems. They said nothing was wrong, but the transmission failed right after the warranty ended. Ford wouldn’t do anything for us. We’ve spent two years and $20,000 on repairs. It’s been our biggest mistake. I’ve never had so many issues with a car.
Most new Expeditions are pretty reliable. Most issues were fixed after the 2022 model was released.

I have a 2018 Limited model. I replaced the transmission at 75,000 miles.

I own a 2021 Expedition Max Platinum with 45,000 miles. No issues except for the power running boards. If you live in the north with snow and road salt, they might cause problems.
The transmission is a bit rough, but I’ve never had serious issues with it.
The original tires lasted around 40,000 miles. I put Michelin tires on my wife’s car. If you live near a lot of construction or potholes, low profile tires are really bad. My wife had to repair several rims due to curb damage.

Every spring, wash your running board hardware. Use WD-40 and fluid film. Spray all the moving parts generously (place cardboard underneath to catch drips). This should prevent issues. I do it for my 2017 every spring and haven’t had problems.

Same here, but I use silicone spray because it’s water repellent and good for this kind of job.

I’ve tried that. The motor behind the front wheels gets hit with road salt and snow. I used fluid film and Ford’s recommended spray.
I dried everything and saw water drip from the motor that’s supposed to be sealed. Maybe I missed some spots, but I think I got it because the road dirt and dust stick to the fluid film.
Off topic, don’t spray fluid film on your suspension parts or bushings. You’ll have squeaks and noises that are hard to remove!
