Don’t focus on the year of the vehicle—look at the mileage. A car with 50,000 miles or less usually doesn’t show problems. Once these 2022+ models reach 80,000 miles, we’ll see how many start having issues. They updated the cam phaser design to reduce problems, and the CDF drum was adjusted, but we need time to see if these changes help. It’s better to buy an extended warranty.

I can’t speak for the 2024, but I’ve had so many issues with my 2018 that I’ll never trust Ford again.

From what I know, the main transmission issues were fixed in cars made after August 2022, and the new cam phaser design has reduced problems with that system.
Also, consider how many cars are on the road compared to the number of people reporting issues here. There are some problems, but is it more than average for other cars?

Agree. Get the warranty. You only hear the complaints. Most people don’t post on forums to say how much they love their cars.

Good to hear! My 2022 was built in October and has had no problems at 25,000 miles.

Well, many 2018 models didn’t have issues until they reached 50,000 to 80,000 miles. That’s too early for any vehicle.

Built in October 2022, 80,000 miles, nothing wrong. Starts good, idles good, transmission shifts smoothly. Limited Max Stealth.

Good luck! Mine started having transmission problems around 60,000 miles.

Then it sounds like I’ll need to look for a Sequoia sooner than I thought.

We’ve spent a lot on a car we thought was great. Mine might be a lemon, but we’ve spent $20,000 in two years fixing things. We should have just stopped and took a loss on a trade-in. I had a Toyota before and loved it! Best car ever with no problems until it stopped working!

How do you find out when your car was built? I have a 2022 Limited and don’t know if I should watch for these issues.

We’re replacing the transmission in our 2020 model soon, just a few miles short of 100,000.
Also dealing with a retractable running board issue that they say is just dirt. It barely moves anymore.

How much does it cost? Did you go to the dealership or a private garage?

Dealership. Thankfully, we have an extended warranty up to 125,000 miles.

You don’t see the thousands of owners who don’t have problems.

The new models have an upgraded clutch drum and clutch can, so the transmission should last longer than the 2017-2023 models.

That’s what I’m hoping for because my wife drove it home today!

I had the same thoughts last year—torn between an F150 and an Expedition. So many bad reviews were discouraging, so I chose a GMC instead and faced similar complaints. I ended up with a Max a year ago and still love driving it.

I have a 2019 Platinum with 108,000 miles. The only issue was the transmission at 103,000 miles. Thankfully, I got an extended warranty. No problems since it was fixed. The warranty paid for itself. I still love the truck. Go for it, especially if you can get a good deal on a 2024 with the new 2025 models coming out. Maybe you can get a higher model like Limited or Platinum.
