Anyone know how to fix entertainment unavailable on 2016 Ford Fusion Titanium?

For weeks now, my 2016 Ford Fusion Titanium has been showing an ‘Entertainment Unavailable’ message in the bottom left corner of the screen. My phone connects, but I can’t play any music. I’ve tried updating the software, disconnecting the battery for a reset, and reconnecting it—still no fix. Has anyone else faced this? Any solutions?

Have you tried this? Hold the Seek Up (>> button) and the Radio Power button at the same time. It resets the unit sometimes.

Yeah, I did. It goes through the scheduled maintenance reset but the issue still remains.

@Eliana
That’s annoying. You might have to replace the APIM module. Correct me if I’m wrong, anyone? Junkyards might have them cheap. Or, if you’ve got about $600, you could upgrade to Sync 3, but you’ll need Forscan for programming.

@Jamie
Ugh, I was hoping to avoid that. Is Sync 3 really worth it?

From a visual standpoint, definitely. It looks much better.

Alright, I’ll think about upgrading. Thanks for your advice.

It’s more than looks—you’ll get Android Auto and Apple CarPlay too.

Oh, that’s a good reason to upgrade! I’ll definitely check it out.

@Eliana
One thing to check: if you’ve got the Sony system, there’s a separate amp. Maybe that’s where the problem is? I don’t know much about it, though.

@Eliana
Check salvage yards or insurance auctions. I got my Sync 3 APIM for $120. All I needed was the new media connector and an adapter.

This happened to my 2016 too. I tried disconnecting the battery, checking fuses, resetting Sync—nothing worked. I think you need to replace the audio control module.

You mean the ACM and not the APIM?

@Eliana
Yes, in my case, it was the ACM. The sounds like backup sensors and door chimes were coming from the dash instead of the speakers. My radio and speakers stopped working altogether.

Interesting. For me, I can still hear voice prompts through the speakers, but music, AM/FM, and other audio won’t play.

Sounds like it’s the ACM (the actual radio unit with the CD slot), not the APIM.

Why do you think it’s the ACM?

When the APIM fails, it usually causes glitches across everything or stops working entirely. If it’s just the audio not playing, the ACM might not be communicating properly. Used ones are pretty cheap, but you’ll probably need some programming.

@Morgan
Got it, thanks for the tip. I’ll update if I find a solution.

@Morgan
Everything on the screen works—backup camera, AC controls, etc. Sometimes voicemails play through the speakers, but music and AM/FM won’t. What should I replace, the APIM or ACM?
