I noticed a wrench light came on before I filled up with gas and then went off after I refueled. It hasn’t come back on since then and that was a week ago. Does anyone know what this could mean? I drive a 2020 Ford EcoSport SE.
It might be time for a service.

Probably an oil change. How many kilometers or miles have you driven?
@Easton
It’s at 64,447 miles right now.

Yep, it’s probably time for a service. I get mine checked every 15,000 km. If you’ve already done the service, you can turn off the wrench light in the menu while the engine is off. Go to the information system and look for the check option to disable it.
Be cautious! Many EcoSports are part of a big recall. Go to the Ford website and check your VIN to see if your car is affected.

Yes, mine was after it had three engine failures in less than two years. It’s due to a faulty oil pump tensioner that can ruin the whole engine. In my city alone, 13 cars are at the Ford dealership for this.
There’s an oil pump recall on the EcoSport. They don’t have parts in stock until next year, so be careful. It’s a huge problem.

Yeah, we had three engines fail in less than three years. We bought the car with 13,000 miles, and it was previously owned by an old lady. It’s still at Ford since July 17th, waiting for parts, along with 12 others.
By the way, no engine light has come on, and the wrench light hasn’t appeared again since.

Be very careful. After we replaced our engine, the light came on and went off randomly. A few weeks later, the engine failed completely. Many people experience engine failure around 70,000 miles. Ours broke down at 69,000 miles. You get no warning signs, and it’s scary. All the lights flash, the engine starts making noise, and you can’t steer or brake properly. We were driving at 70 mph in the rain at night, thinking we were going to crash. We had just had an oil change three days before.
@Kade
That’s insane. What happened after you took it back to Ford?

It’s still sitting at Ford since July 17th, waiting on parts. There are 12 other cars there with the same issue. We won’t get ours back until next year when the parts are available. They say second quarter of the year, but I’m not sure I believe them.
@Kade
Did they not offer a rental car?

They didn’t offer a rental at first. After my transmission broke the second time, we had to call and demand one. We paid a $50 deposit, waited two days, and then had to take a $30 Uber ride to get it. They finally gave us one.
@Kade
Just to add, when we got the replacement engine, the replacements lasted less than 6,000 miles. It’s been sitting there since July 17th after the second replacement failed. We don’t even have 90,000 miles on the car.

In my experience, the wrench light comes on, and the car goes into ‘limp mode’, where it struggles to accelerate. I think it prevents the turbo from working to save the engine. You can turn off the car, and the sensor resets. I suggest getting a basic code reader to check for a P0299 code. If it shows up, get ready to leave it in the garage for a long time and expect Ford to give you the runaround. I had to teach my local dealership how to check for the code because they didn’t know how to do it.
@Hollis
Oh, okay. I just got a new engine from Ford because of the recall. I didn’t think I would have any issues this soon. I really hate this car.

You’re not alone. I’ll never buy another Ford, even if they promise it will never break down.
