Why are the Brake and Gas Pedals So Sensitive? Anyone Else Facing This?

I have another weird issue, this one has got to be the most annoying thing ever.

2018 Ford Escape SEL

Excuse my language but why are the brake pads so high!? Like, I literally have to lift my feet to press the brakes. It’s weird. I’ve never experienced that with any other vehicle.

I’m only 4’11" but still! I feel like I should be able to just switch between gas and brakes easily without having to lift my whole foot to press the brakes.

On top of that, the brake and gas pedal are sooooooo sensitive. I wish I was exaggerating but I truly am not. I have to be so careful when touching them so I don’t stop suddenly and press lightly on the gas so I don’t stall the vehicle.

That’s definitely an odd issue. I’m not sure about the height of the brake pedal, but the sensitivity of the pedals can definitely be a problem. Have you checked if your car needs a recalibration or anything like that?

I’m about 5’2" and I’ve noticed something similar. My foot position is awkward sometimes, especially when I need to switch between pedals fast. I think it’s just how the design is. Have you considered getting pedal extenders?

I don’t know what’s up with the brake being so high, but the sensitivity issue sounds like something that could be an issue with the brake system. Maybe there’s something with the master cylinder? Might be worth having a mechanic look at it.

Thanks for the input, everyone! I’ll try to get it checked out by a mechanic. It’s honestly a little annoying how sensitive it is.
