I just wanted to share the best MPG I’ve achieved with my 2022 7.3L truck!
Every time I see posts like this, it makes me glad I went with the diesel! I’ve gotten 13 mpg pulling my camper on a 300-mile trip. I’m sure the 7.3 is a good engine, but for me, I’m a diesel guy—unless my CP4 pump fails.

Exactly. Diesel is cheaper for me and has much better mileage. Getting 14 mpg is disappointing.

Are you getting 14 mpg while pulling 9,000 pounds over 40 feet?

They were probably referring to the MPG in the original post, since they mentioned 14 and you said 13.

Oh, I see. I got a notification that they replied to me. I thought I was getting good mileage. Haha.
I get much better than that with my 2022 F-250, 3.55 gears, tonneau cover, and a 5 Star Tuning tune. I have pictures on my phone of the mileage during summer—around 70-80 degrees at 68 mph.

Yeah, I’ve never been thrilled with how the truck runs when empty. But it’s a rare occasion for me to have it on the highway. The truck mostly spends its life pulling trailers within a 50-mile radius and plowing in the winter. The 4.30 gears suit me. They also helped me get a good deal on the truck since most people didn’t want this setup. An extended cab Lariat gas engine with tall gears was kind of an unusual configuration.

Yeah, for that purpose, it’s perfect, and the Godzilla engine handles it easily. I mostly drive on highways. I pull a hunting trailer in the fall and go off-road hunting, so my setup works for me just like yours does for you. I ordered mine at just the right time when Ford was ramping back up after COVID, and trade values and prices were really good. I’m very happy with mine.
Who cares? I just bought a 2024 7.3 and get 14.5 mpg. Drive what makes you happy.
The 4.30 gears are tough on fuel economy.

They are, but it’s rare that this truck is on the highway, and I pull several different trailers a week with it, between 7,000 to 15,000 pounds. So the 4.30 gears make sense for me, especially with a lot of stop-and-go driving around town.
I drive a stock 2022 F-350 7.3 with 4.30 gears, crew cab long bed, and I get 14.4 mpg.

Mine has never done that well, but the 0.4 mpg difference probably comes down to how I drive compared to others. I normally average 11 mpg, so getting 14 made me happy.

Those 35-inch tires might not be helping your mileage either.

I get worse mileage with a 6.2 and 35s. Awesome truck!

I got close to that (13.7 mpg) hauling my 8,000 lbs camper with my 6.7L from Tampa, FL to Albany, GA and back.

Put some gas in that thing.

Great setup. A SuperCab Long Box Lariat is my dream truck too.

How are you all getting 22 mpg with your diesel F-350s? We have a 2019 6.7L and get 12 mpg when I’m not towing and 10 mpg when I am. I bought a tuner for it, and now we get 14 mpg when not towing. Never anywhere close to 20 mpg, and it’s all highway driving.
