I’m trying to figure out what this dashboard light means. I’ve looked at the manual online, but I didn’t see it. It’s a 2023 Ford F-250 diesel, and it’s my work truck.
The light is for the exhaust brake. The button is located on the dash near the hazard light button, above the display. Press it once for on, twice for AUTO, and three times to turn it off.

Thanks! I had no idea this would confuse some people . Never driven a diesel before this work truck. I did check the manual under the symbol section, and it wasn’t there. I didn’t have time to read through the whole manual looking for ‘exhaust brake.’ Appreciate you clearing that up!
@Dario
The exhaust brake is really useful if you’re hauling something heavy. I haul propane all day, and the brake is a lifesaver!

Why is it useful for heavy loads? How does it help?
@Brady
It uses exhaust pressure to slow the engine down, which reduces the strain on your regular brakes. This is helpful when you’re hauling heavy loads or driving on steep hills so your brakes don’t overheat. A jake brake works similarly but is even stronger.
@Dario
There should be an owner’s manual in your glove box. It explains all the lights on the dashboard. I always use mine when I’m unsure about something. It’s worth a quick look.

This is the right answer!!
@Pace
Exactly!!
That light means your exhaust brake is on.

This is correct. The button should be located just above the radio screen.
Your truck needs to fart!
It’s the fart light!
Careful, it might not be a fart after all.
Do you not have a manual in your glove box?

For 2023 models and newer, the owner’s manual is digital and located in the SYNC menu.

Why can’t Ford just print the manual and put it in the glove box? It’s a work truck! Come on.
@Aurora
Printing it costs extra, and they sell millions of trucks. Ford probably chooses to cut costs elsewhere. Still, they could at least offer a printed troubleshooting guide. Not everyone can read a manual on a digital screen when the power’s out.
