What does Code P0020 mean when the Check Engine Light comes on?

The Check Engine Light came on while I was driving, and the code scanner showed P0020. The truck seems to be running fine even though the light is on.

Code P0020 is related to the VVT (variable valve timing) system or the PCM (powertrain control module). VVT helps the engine perform better or use fuel more efficiently.

I’ve been researching P0020 but can’t find a solution. If anyone has dealt with this code before, can you help me figure out what to do? My truck is a 2015 3.5 EB XLT with only 16,000 miles.

A few years ago, I saw this code on my 2009 F150 4x4 5.4L and got worried. I found out that sometimes this code appears when the battery is low or weak. I had just replaced the battery, so I cleared the code and waited to see if it would come back. It didn’t.

It depends. It might be a crimped wire, a faulty sensor, or a completely failed solenoid.

I also have a 3.5 EcoBoost. A few months ago, I installed a catch can and accidentally knocked loose a small sensor under the engine cover. This caused a similar code: “p0013B Camshaft Position Actuator Circuit (Bank 1).”

It might be worth checking under your hood to see if you have a loose sensor, especially if your code is for the other bank.

According to my online research, that code is for the intake camshaft position actuator circuit (bank 2).

You are right! The same sensor on the driveway side, in front of the oil cap, was loose. I saw some oil stains on it. I plugged it back in, and now the check engine light is off! Thanks a lot for your help, and thanks to everyone else for their input too.
