Hey everyone? I’ve been looking into getting a Mustang and messing around with the builder on Ford’s site. Something caught my eye that I couldn’t find an answer to. If I build a GT Premium with an automatic, the MagneRide, and the GT Performance Package, it’s about 4k cheaper than the Mach 1 with the automatic. Besides the extra 20 hp the Mach 1 has, is there anything that makes it worth the extra money? Or should I just go with the GT Premium? I track 2-3 times a year, but it’ll be my daily driver the rest of the time.
The Mach 1 comes with a few extra features you can’t get on a GT from the factory, like:
- Engine oil cooler
- Rear differential fluid cooler
- Transmission fluid cooler
- Mach 1-specific chassis tuning
- Larger radiator
- Intake manifold from the GT350
- Special wheels exclusive to the Mach 1
- A more aggressive tune for that extra 20 horsepower
- Brighter, unique exhaust tips
The coolers and larger radiator are a big part of the price difference, and they help keep the car performing well on hot track days. Whether that’s worth the extra 4k depends on how much you value those things.
Honestly, the better transmission is probably the biggest draw. The Tremec 3160 is loved for a reason.
I think they were talking about automatics in both builds, but yeah, the Tremec is awesome if you’re going manual. I traded my 2021 GT Premium automatic for a 2022 Mach 1 with the 6-speed, and I’m loving it.
You know that Tremec is in the I4 and V6 Camaros too, right?
This is exactly the info I was looking for. Thanks!
Are you comparing a regular Mach 1 or the Mach 1 with the handling package?
I don’t see the handling package as an option for the 2023s, at least not on the builder. It does come with MagneRide, though.
Quick side question: Which package do you add if you want a glass roof?
Just a heads-up, if you’re looking to buy a Mach 1 or any S550 Mustang right now, I think the order banks closed about a month ago. You’ll probably have to find one at a dealer. I believe they’re starting the S650/2024 production sometime around mid to late March.
