What are the key differences between the GT Premium and GT PP1 Mustangs?

Hey, 2018+ Mustang owners? I’m switching from my '21 WRX, and I’m torn between the GT Premium and GT PP1. I’ve budgeted for either, but here’s the catch: no aftermarket mods for me. I’m curious about your experiences.

For those with the GT Premium, do you wish you had gone for the performance package? Does the Premium feel like it’s missing something?

And for you GT PP1 owners, is the base package not enough? Or do you feel the PP1 is too much, especially with the performance suspension? Is it hard to daily drive with that setup?

I’m coming from a base WRX, so I’m used to basic interiors A/C struggles, bad sound system, and noise everywhere. I just want a fast, reliable daily driver. I modded my WRX so much that it’s no longer fun to drive, and I’m scared the engine’s about to give out. I barely push it anymore because I don’t want to replace the motor.

Also, if any of you have switched from a WRX to a Mustang, I’d love to hear how that went.

Yo, I’ve got the best of both worlds Premium PP1 GT. Trust me, you’ll be happy with that combo. :sunglasses:

That’s the dream, man. If I go used, I could maybe pull it off. But I don’t trust how people treat their cars. I’d be nervous the previous owner thrashed it.

I get that. Mine had 14k miles when I got it from the same dealer that sold it new. Full warranty, no issues. The previous owner was averaging 19 mpg (I’m at 11 mpg, lol), and the Brembos were barely broken in. No chips on the front, original tires, and that new car smell was still there! It was a gem, man. I snagged it just before prices went nuts.

Damn, if you don’t mind me asking, how much did you pay? I just want to mentally prepare for the sticker shock.

Price varies by region, but I also added stripes from Big Worm for $375. Installation was twice that. My guy’s a pro hand-pinstriper, so I knew I’d get quality. Some might charge less, but I didn’t want to take chances.

I’m looking at buying a ‘17 PP GT this week. Does anyone know if I can swap the levers from a Premium to get those driving modes? Is it just plug-and-play?

I went from an ’18 GT Premium to a ’20 Premium 401A PP1. The non-PP was fine, but the suspension difference is noticeable when pushing it hard. Still, the interior on the Premium is worth it, especially with the 401A digital dash. The base interior is just…meh. If you want comfort and tech, go Premium. If you’re buying used, as long as it’s a clean title, I wouldn’t worry too much.

Yeah, I’m thinking used might be the move if I want the best of both. I’m seeing some within my budget with low miles.

I’ve owned a base, a Premium PP1, and now a PP2 301A that’s supercharged. If it’s your daily, the longer gears and softer suspension of the non-PP might suit you better. That said, I didn’t find the PP1 suspension too harsh. It’s tighter, but on highways, there wasn’t a huge difference. The Brembos are insane, though. I daily drove my PP1 for three years, and it was a Premium. Maybe a slightly used PP 301A would be perfect for you.

I went with a Premium and the 12-inch digital dash. It’s my daily, and those heated/cooled seats plus the heated steering wheel are lifesavers. I plan to mod it down the road, but even stock, it handles corners great. No regrets here.

Get the PP1, man. I have a PP2, and if it’s anything like the jump from a base GT, it’s worth every penny. You won’t regret it.

Thanks for all the feedback, everyone. It’s super helpful. I’m leaning toward the PP1 now, especially since it doesn’t sound like the suspension is too harsh for daily driving. Time to start hunting for deals :mag:
