Weird noise at idle… anyone else with a Fiesta ST Line 1.0 Ecoboost?

For a few months now, I’ve noticed a strange noise happening at idle (video attached). It seems to come from under the centre console or maybe the bottom of the engine?

I don’t know much about cars, so sorry if I’m not explaining this right. The noise only shows up when the car is idling around 800 rpm. Once I rev the engine, it stops completely. When the car goes back to idle, the noise starts again—you can see this in the video.

Some car enthusiast friends looked at it, but they couldn’t figure it out. I also mentioned it during my last Ford service, but the mechanic didn’t find anything either.

Has anyone else experienced this?

This is exactly what’s happening to me too. I posted about it here yesterday, but my engine is a 1.1. Still no clue what’s causing it though.

I had the same issue, but mine was under warranty. They said it was something with the cables near the gearbox. They tidied them up and secured them better. Maybe try taking it to a Ford garage? They’ll probably know more than I do.

That’s interesting! I’ll mention it to the Ford garage when I go back. Thanks for the tip.

Please update us if they figure it out. I’d love to know what solves it.

@Nora
Will do .

What happens when you press the clutch pedal? If the noise goes away, it could be the clutch release bearing.

Unfortunately, the noise is still there even when I press the clutch.

It might be the belt. Maybe check it out?

I replaced both the cambelt and the V-belt, but the noise didn’t go away for me.

If it’s an Ecoboost, you should get rid of it before the engine fails.

It could be the turbo wastegate actuator.

You might want to check if the air conditioning pump has caused metal shards to spread through the system.

How do you have an ST with a 1.0 engine? That doesn’t make sense. Also, you should share a video from the engine side.

It’s an ST Line, mate.
