Okay, so hear me out. I have a 1990 LX hatch with a 5.0. The body isn’t in the best shape and it has some small problems, but it still drives well and it’s a stick shift. I kind of like the look of the SN95 more but wanted a 5.0, so I found a clean one for sale and the owner agreed to trade. I enjoy driving the Fox as the handling and acceleration are fun enough, and it is lightly modded. Now, would I regret this trade or should I just build up my Fox until it runs well? The SN95 is in pretty good condition as it’s been recently painted. What are your thoughts?
I had a Fox once, too, and there’s just something about that raw, old-school vibe. But the SN95? Sleek look, and you’re still sticking with a 5.0. If the Fox is giving you joy and those small issues don’t bug you, maybe keep building it up. But if that SN95’s been calling your name, I say trust your gut—sometimes a fresh start with a clean ride just feels right.
Having had a 95 for more than 20 years, I advise doing whatever brings you joy. When comparing cars of the same kind, the SN95 will ride and handle better than the FOX. Only being lighter will make the FOX quicker. Furthermore, even though SN95 values are increasing among enthusiasts, I don’t think they will surpass FOX levels. I haven’t found a FOX yet that meets my needs at a reasonable price, so I’m still searching. However, I have hope.
