This guide shows which cars and years to avoid

This video fixed it for me: https://youtu.be/6dMDGr3wr_c

Plus, Forscan is easier to use now!

Just saw this! I’m going to give it a try since I have the same issue.

@Presley
It might feel a little weird for a while after resetting, but after a tank or so of gas, it re-learns your driving habits. Mine’s been shifting perfectly since I did it about 1,000 miles ago!

@Phoebe
I’ve got an ‘18 2.7L with 81k miles, and I know exactly what you’re talking about. I try not to worry either. It’s good to know I’m not the only one. No other issues, though.

@Phoebe
Same here with my ‘18 2.7L. I get the 3-4 gear slip sometimes. Also, when I put it into Reverse from Park, it clunks a bit. Other than that, no complaints.

That clunk when going from Park to Reverse freaks me out every time!

@Phoebe
I sold mine last June, but yeah, it did that sometimes. It wasn’t bad enough to bother me since I forgot about it quickly.

@Phoebe
Apparently, all Ford and GM trucks with the 10-speed transmission do this. Mine does it when I slow down, take a turn, and then accelerate again. There’s a noticeable ‘clunk’ as it shifts back up through the gears. My friend’s GMC Denali does the same thing.

@Presley
Well, I guess it’s ‘normal’ then. I just hope my transmission doesn’t crap out after 100k miles.

I’m at 102k miles with no issues so far. Someone posted a fix earlier, so I’m going to try that once I get my truck back from getting the bed sprayed with Rhino Liner.

@Phoebe
I have a 3.5L and get some clunking when I floor it. I just got the Forscan OBD connector and plan to reset the adaptive transmission tables. I also read you can reset it by disconnecting the battery, turning the headlights on to drain any remaining power, and then reconnecting the battery.

Thanks for posting this two weeks after I bought a 2018.

I’ve had my ‘18 for 4 years, no issues at all. 2.7 for the win.

Same here!

I can’t wait to sell my ‘18… just need to get it fixed first.

I put 100k miles on my ‘18 with no problems. It’s a solid truck. Whoever made this list doesn’t know what they’re talking about.

@Kevin
Check my posts :confused:

@Kevin
I’ve got a 2018 3.5L with 64k miles. It’s had nearly every recall for that year, and my transmission failed at 63k. It was replaced, and now, less than a month later, it’s back in the shop for wheel bearings and the AC. The engine fan has been running on high constantly because the AC compressor basically disintegrated, sending metal through the lines. They’re replacing everything. I also can’t believe my wheel bearings went bad so soon, but I’ve heard this is common with Fords. I love my truck, but I’m disappointed that it won’t last to 200k. I’m planning to sell it before the warranty runs out.

@Mason
I just bought an ‘18 3.5L with 61k miles. I hope yours is a worst-case scenario and not the norm. Mine’s been great so far, but I bought the extended warranty just in case. Covers me until 2029 or 150k miles.

@Nash
Good call on the extended warranty. Mine’s covered too, so I’m not paying out of pocket, but it’s still frustrating. When I asked the dealership how common it was to see a transmission replacement at 62k miles, they basically said, ‘We’ve seen it before.’ Seems like the newer transmission for these years has had more issues. Ford’s powertrain warranty only goes up to 60k, so I’m glad I extended it.

@Mason
Yeah, I’m really glad I went with the extended coverage.

@Mason
I’ve got an ‘18 3.5L too. Bought it new in 2017, and it’s towed near its max capacity up and down mountains for thousands of miles. Here’s what’s gone wrong:

  • Had a bad clunk in the shifting at 10k miles. The valve body was replaced, and the weird shifting others mentioned is the only issue now.
  • Just before the factory warranty expired, the passenger door handle stopped locking and unlocking. Never did get it fixed.
  • The sunroof broke and was fixed under warranty (pro tip: grease those seals!).
  • Had some recall work done, but whoever did it didn’t put the rear passenger door together correctly. It flew open on the highway, and we couldn’t get it to close afterward. Yeah, we were pissed.
  • Cam phasers replaced.
  • Windshield started to delaminate in the upper right corner. Not covered under warranty.
  • The leather seat got a hole in it, but that was covered under the extended warranty.
  • Rear brake pads replaced during regular maintenance.
  • One of the decals is starting to peel.

It’s got 75k miles on it now, and all in all, not too bad.
