Hey everyone, I’m looking at F-150s for my next truck. The Lightning is interesting, but I love the idea of a twin turbo 4WD truck. I’m wondering how much aftermarket support there is—like upgraded turbos, intercoolers, blow-off valves, and the like. I’d like to do some upgrades over time, but I’m not sure what’s really worth it. Do people mod these trucks a lot? Appreciate any input!
Just a heads-up, it’s not AWD. The 4WD Auto mode is useful, but it’s not like Subaru or Audi’s AWD.
There’s a ton of aftermarket parts available, but most of what’s marketed won’t do much. Aftermarket intakes, throttle body spacers, and ‘race chip’ setups tend to empty your wallet without real gains. The same goes for most exhaust setups, especially cat-back systems. A proper tune is usually the best single mod for increasing power.

This is great, thank you.

AWD?
Yeah, sorry—I got mixed up. I was thinking it was AWD. Been looking at too many vehicles and losing track.

I leave my truck in 4A. It’s not AWD, but honestly, it’s better. It doesn’t hurt MPG and it kicks in when needed.
If you want to mod your truck, you can upgrade the intercooler, cold air intake, wastegates (like Turbosmart ones), MSD ignition coils, NGK plugs, install a 4-inch exhaust kit, add high-flow downpipes, and get an SCT Livewire TS+ tuner. Talk to someone from 5 Star Custom Tunes too. This kind of setup has been done since around 2011 and can push you close to 500hp. Some say the jump from around 370hp to 500hp isn’t huge, but you don’t need 2000hp to have fun at the drag strip with your daily driver. Just remember to keep up with oil changes, use 91/93 octane, and keep an eye on your valve covers and vacuum pump.
