Terrible Fuel Economy on 2016 Ford Escape 2.0

I’ve been experiencing terrible fuel economy with my 2016 Ford Escape 2.0. To be fair, my job site is only about a minute away from my house, so I mostly do short trips in the city (10 miles or less daily). However, when I go on a fishing trip, I can get my MPG above 22.

What’s puzzling is that when I reset my trip meter during my honeymoon a year ago, I averaged over 26 MPG, mostly on the highway. Back when I was traveling for work, I consistently got at least 24 MPG on the highway. But since I stopped traveling for work and started working closer to home, I can’t seem to get above 15 MPG—my last check was 14.6.

Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this drop in fuel efficiency? Should I consider changing my spark plugs, or is there something else I should look into? Any advice would be appreciated!
