For those who live where it snows, what’s your go-to for snow chains? We’re heading to Colorado soon and want to be ready just in case the weather turns.
I’ve been in Colorado for over 30 years. Honestly, the only time you’d really need chains here is if you’re doing serious off-road snow driving. They’re enforcing rules on vehicles without 4WD or snow tires, but as long as you’ve got that, you’re good.
@Hailey
For off-roading, I find that just airing down the tires works better before having to throw on chains.
@Hailey
Thanks for the info! I’ve never been there when it’s been bad enough to need chains, just trying to stay prepared.
I wouldn’t put chains on your truck. I think the manual even says not to. Raptors are solid in the snow without them. That’s my Braptor in this clip, for example.

Yeah, I’m not worried about the truck itself, but I’ve heard some areas in Colorado require chains.
@Mariana
Chain laws apply to commercial vehicles mostly. Regular cars just need 4WD or snow-rated tires to follow the Traction Law.
@Mariana
I’ve passed through many checkpoints and haven’t had to put chains on my Raptor or any off-road truck.
@Mariana
I’m from Colorado too—if you’ve got 4WD or snow tires, you don’t need chains.
@Mariana
For regular cars in November? No chains, unless you’re driving a commercial vehicle.
I live in a place with lake-effect snow. My truck handles deep snow without chains just fine. You don’t really need them for normal roads, even with snow up to the bumper.
Put it in Slippery mode. If you put chains on, you’re risking damage. Chains make the tires skip, and that can mess up sensors, especially in 4A or 4H.

Forget Slippery mode—put it in Baja mode and go for it!
@Sidney
I’d love to see how that turns out

This was over in eastern Oregon. That trip took us from the Steens mountains down to Leslie Gulch.
@Sidney
Oh wow, that sounds rough! How did it end up?

Truck was totaled. Happened about 5 years ago.

That’s a shame, sorry to hear that.
