Rear drum brake keeps getting too hot… Anyone dealt with this?

I was out on some rocky trails over the weekend, and by the end of the day, I noticed my driver-side rear drum brake was overheating and dragging. I spent the night changing out the springs, shoes, and the wheel cylinder, but the problem is still there.

I’m starting to think it might be the parking brake causing it. There was a moment when I thought I was stuck on a rock, so I gave it some gas, only to realize the parking brake was still on. Could that have messed something up?

Check your parking brake cable. If it got kinked or bent anywhere, that could easily cause this kind of issue.

Here’s a picture of the setup.

Does the other side look the same? Maybe try engaging and releasing the parking brake a few times. Sometimes they adjust themselves that way.

Another angle here.

I don’t think you need to manually pop them into place. The springs should naturally pull them back where they need to be.

Just a heads up… it’s spelled ‘brake,’ not ‘break.’

Haha, give me a break… I’m dyslexic!
