Question about Safety Features

I have a 2022 Ford Transit 250 that used to be a U-Haul fleet vehicle. I really like it, but something concerning happened, or maybe I did something a bit silly that caused it. I was driving on the interstate when I leaned over to the right to grab something off the passenger side floor. I admit it was a dumb move. Suddenly, the vehicle powered off and the dashboard went dark. I managed to coast over to the side and put my hazards on. It started right back up, and I continued home without any other issues.

So my question is: Do Transits have kill switches that engage if too much weight is off the driver’s seat while driving? Is this something specific to rental vehicles? Or could this just be a coincidence reminding me to drive more safely

Did you possibly move the keys enough to disengage them? I’ve had to lift myself off the seat and the vehicle stays on. If you get up while brake hold is active, it goes into park, but it doesn’t sound like what you described.

@Teddy
That might be possible, but the keys usually stay stable even when jingling. The ignition was definitely still on.

U-Haul does make modifications, and this could be one of them. I have a former fleet 250 too.

I really like the oh crap rails on the sides.

My non-fleet cargo 22 gives me a warning if I shift in my seat for even a second while driving. I would think a former U-Haul has a kill switch for emergencies.

That makes sense. I’m glad it has a nice safety feature, but I’m concerned it might malfunction and cause me a lot of stress in the future.

@Leighton
I totally understand that. You could always bypass it if you didn’t want that feature.
