My First Car… a 2017 EV!

Just bought my first car, a 2017 EV! Excited but curious about what to expect. Anyone else have experience with this model?

Wow, a third-gen EV is pretty rare! The facelifted versions had an interesting mix of Mk3 and Mk3.5 parts. Definitely stands out.

Yeah, almost as rare as some supercars—just without all the fame.

I drive a 2017 too. My commute is short, and I’ve only put about 30,000 km on it in 2.5 years. Works fine for my needs.

Your Focus looks super weird compared to what we have here!

That’s because it’s the EV version. They changed the design a bit, and not many were sold.

Sorry to say this, but be prepared for some headaches with it.

Are these EVs really that bad? I’ve seen some under $8k with low miles and got tempted. I know the range isn’t the best, but it’d cover my commute easily.

I paid around $5k USD, taxes included, and it has less than 60k miles. Between this and a first-gen Leaf, the choice was obvious for me.

That’s a steal! No idea why some people are being negative about it.

Yeah, it really is. Especially considering the leather interior and the great condition overall.

Does it handle your trips well range-wise? I feel like small EVs with limited range could be a solid option if they charge fast enough.

I don’t use it for commuting since public transport is more convenient, but it handles all my trips to visit friends within a 40-minute drive just fine.

Sounds like you’re living the dream. Enjoy it!

I get why you’re getting downvotes, but I also get where you’re coming from. My Focus has given me trouble too. Fingers crossed that OP has better luck!

Wait, are there common problems I should know about? I heard about transmission issues, but mine’s electric.

Yeah, electric cars have their own issues. Mainly, the batteries usually degrade after 8-10 years. Replacing them often costs more than the car is worth, which is why they depreciate so much.
