Hey everyone, I’m considering picking up a 2005 Mustang GT. It really means a lot to me personally, but I can’t just buy it for sentimental reasons. If I do go for it, I plan to use it as my daily driver, and I need something that won’t have major engine problems in the next couple of years. What do you all think about this?
If the price is right, then yeah, it could be a fun car. My '07 GT had around 270,000 miles on it before it was totaled, and I didn’t face any serious issues. If you can snag it for a good deal, it might just be a great beater
So, what happened to your car? Did you crash it, or did it just break down?
I lost control while goofing around with the traction control off and ended up hitting a tree
Lol, that’s the classic Mustang driver move. At least you’re honest about it
Haha wassup @Flippa
Haha, exactly. But I’m glad you’re okay
Thanks, man. I appreciate that, but the laugh though
If the price is reasonable, then I say go for it. How’s the car’s overall condition? Is the driver’s seat really worn out, or are there a lot of paint chips and scratches, or is it just typical wear for a car with 170,000 miles? Do you know much about its maintenance history? Those are things I’d think about. If it’s not looking good, maybe consider finding a similar one with fewer miles that still holds that sentimental value
The price is actually pretty good. It’s in really solid shape overall. They’ve done some suspension work, added new wheels and tires, and restored part of the interior. I haven’t checked for rust yet, but they’re asking $7,000 for it
$7,000 seems a bit steep for a car with that many miles, but if it’s in great condition, it’s not impossible. Those engines are pretty tough. Just make sure to check for rust, especially around the fender wells and engine compartment. Rust can be pretty common in those areas because that paint gets a lot of abuse
Honestly, that price sounds ridiculous for a car with 170,000 miles. I’d suggest offering somewhere between $3,000 and $5,000. They’re not as reliable as the 2V 4.6L engines, so if they can’t prove that they’ve changed the timing chain components, I’d walk away entirely
I’d say offer around $5,000 for it
You might want to start your offer at about $5,500 if it needs work. But overall, it should still be a decent car
