How do Mustangs handle during the winter? I’m thinking of getting one and I live in New York. I know RWD cars can struggle in icy and snowy conditions but how bad is the Mustang really? It’ll be my only car during the winter, so I won’t have any backup. Do you think putting sandbags in the trunk and getting snow tires will help at all?
The key is definitely the tires. Having good-quality tires makes a huge difference
I live in western PA and drove my 2020 GT all winter without any issues. I had snow tires on all four wheels.
Wait, was that this past winter?
Yup, it was. I was actually surprised at how well it drove and handled.
That winter was pretty wild. Is your Mustang manual or automatic?
It’s the 10-speed automatic. Most of the time, I just drove in normal mode, but if the roads were tricky, I switched to snow/wet mode. I also used the paddle shifters to manage the gears when necessary.
Sounds solid, I think I’m sold. I’m heading to Ford this weekend haha. Thanks a lot for the info
No problem at all. I really love my GT. I bought it new last September and I’m almost at 13k miles. I drive it every day unless I’m on my bike, and I’m averaging 24.5 mpg too. It’s a fantastic car.
Two years later, how’s winter treating you? I got mine but keep it in the garage. I’m tempted to get it winter-ready and actually use it.
So far, it’s been better than I expected. I live in NJ, and the winters have been pretty mild since I got the car. I haven’t driven it in more than an inch of snow, except for one time when I slowly drove to a nearby neighborhood during a storm just to do some donuts in a parking lot It was a bit sketchy, but I didn’t lose traction at all!
Do you think it’s better to get a garage for the winter, or is parking outside fine?
