Hey, can I put a 5.0 in my 2000 Mustang? It’s got a 3.9 motor and automatic transmission.
Not really sure. What details do you have?
I really do not have much
Anything else the mechanic should know before I connect you? He’ll be able to help you out.
Not really, that’s all
Good afternoon, I’m the mechanic and I’m here to help you out.
Afternoon mech , wassup?
Hey @Unclewaffl3s , nice to meet you. You can definitely swap in a 5.0 for your 2000 Mustang. Are you thinking of the newer Coyote 5.0 engine?
Hold on mech, a Coyote? Is it possible with my 3.9 auto?
What year of the 5.0 engine are you considering? The Coyote engine is from 2011 and up.
It’s definitely possible and not too difficult.
Any 5.0 that would fit without too many hassles?
I’d go with the newer 5.0 engine. It’s powerful and reliable for the cost.
Can I use the same transmission?
No, you’ll need something like the 4R70W to handle the extra torque. Your current transmission might not hold up.
Got it. What about wiring, computer, and all that?
And the rear differential?
You’ll need a conversion harness for the new setup. The rear differential might last a bit but consider upgrading it soon.
Check this…
Sounds complicated, but I’m still looking for that kit.
It’s a bit complex, but it can be done.
Any other questions today?
Know any shops that do this in North Bay?
