Has Ford dropped the ball on quality?

My Subaru is 12 years old with 128K miles. I had to pull it out of the garage because my Maverick needs to go in for service. The Subaru’s radiator blew out during the drive, but it was fixed in 3 days at Firestone.

Now, my 2.5-year-old Maverick with 47K miles has a front axle issue, and it’s becoming unsafe to drive. I’ve called every Ford dealer around, and they’re saying it will take 2-10 weeks just to look at it. No promises of a loaner, and they won’t even guarantee a ride home within 10 miles of the dealership.

Has Ford really fallen apart on quality? Are we in a place now where you need a second car to handle warranty repairs?

ETA: Downvoting won’t stop F150s and Mustangs from becoming junk, folks. Lmao.

Quality worldwide took a nosedive in March of 2020.

Yep, doesn’t matter what it is. Everything is being made poorly now.

As someone with a 2020 Expedition made in Dec 2019, I’d say the drop in quality started before that. I’ve had it in the shop 4 times for transmission issues alone over the past 2.5 months.

I’d actually say it started in 2018 from my experience as a dealer tech. COVID made things worse, but we started seeing trucks in 2018 come in with issues like missing valve bodies in transmissions and EcoBoost engines missing valves entirely. It was nuts.

My 2022 F250 has been flawless. It actually convinced me to switch from GM.

I’ve been a little disappointed with my 2024 F250. The rearview mirror has exposed wires, some interior panels don’t fit right, and there’s a noticeable paint defect on the roof. Small stuff, but still annoying.

Yeah, all vehicles have minor fit issues. Even my 2010 Silverado LTZ had small problems like that. It’s what you get with a mainstream brand and not something like Rolls-Royce or Bentley.

My brother-in-law works as a contractor for Ford, but he got a GMC Sierra because it’s cheaper than an F150 for him.

Doesn’t make a lot of sense to me, but just something to think about.

@Nicholas
He talked about the quality of his Ford in a thread asking about Ford’s quality… how does that not make sense?

Saying “My Ford F250 is fine” in the middle of a conversation about how Ford dealers are overloaded with faulty vehicles is like saying your 2015 Focus doesn’t have transmission issues. It’s nice for you, but doesn’t change the bigger problem.

@Nicholas
No, it’s just his personal experience with Ford’s quality, which is what you asked for. If you only wanted complaints, you should’ve said so.

I guess it’s impossible to reason with Mustang guys

@Nicholas
GOT ‘EM! Good luck with your future arguments!

Good luck posting Mustang pics online like a “cool guy!” Hope you enjoy your Facebook debates with the HOA members. And yeah, Fords are perfect for Kroger and Meijer runs.

@Nicholas
You’re really keeping things on topic here. Great job!

@Nicholas
You asked for opinions and now you’re mad because someone shared their positive experience? Dude, what’s even going on here? Lmao.

Honestly, this sounds like a dealership problem as much as a Ford problem. If you bought your car from the dealer, they should at least offer an appointment and a loaner, especially if it’s still under warranty. Looking at the car and diagnosing it shouldn’t be delayed because of part availability.

@EmberGlow
He never said they refused to look at it, just that they’re fully booked for weeks. That’s pretty normal with the whole industry being short-staffed. I left work on Friday with a week’s worth of jobs lined up, and for every car I finish, two more show up. It’s never-ending.

@Quentin
Honestly, if I had the choice, I’d rather take it to Firestone and have Ford cover the bill if it’s under warranty.

Ford’s doing what every other company with penny-pinching managers does: cutting corners on quality, not addressing the issues, and relying on people like the guy who says “My F250 is fine” to keep thinking all Fords are great. Meanwhile, there are loads of Maverick owners with CV axle problems, and Ford’s only answer is a Customer Satisfaction Program (CSP).

Basically, there are three big problems:

  1. Ford isn’t hiring enough staff to handle the issues.

  2. Ford isn’t focusing on the quality needed to stop these problems.

  3. Combine #1 and #2, and it shows they just don’t care anymore.
