Definitely file a police report and get in touch with your insurance. They should be your first steps.

Yeah, sadly, that’s really all you can do.
You mentioned living in a rural area and leaving it for the weekend. Do you think someone at the dealership might’ve copied the keys and somehow got your address? Sounds suspicious, or maybe I’m overthinking.
@Kiernan
The police actually think so too. The truck wasn’t even out in the open.

The thieves disabled the tracker within minutes. I found some video footage of them pulling into a place, stopping, then driving off.
@Junita
Did it have a LoJack tracker? My dealership had put one on mine without telling me.

Mine does too. They don’t tell you where it is so if yours had one, an insider might’ve tipped them off.
@Jesse
Found mine pretty quickly after buying the truck. It’s in an easy-to-spot spot.

Was it under the dash by any chance?
@Junita
What kind of tracker was it? That’s insane and sketchy. I also live out in the country and leave keys in my vehicles.

It was the one on the FordPass app. They managed to disable it.
@Junita
Definitely sounds like an inside job. That’s so rough, man.
@Junita
How do they even turn off the tracker?

I have no idea.

On my Expedition, you can disable the app’s connectivity through the settings. Feels like there should be a more secure way.

You can turn it off from the screen in the cab. The cellular SIM in the truck still talks to towers, but that data needs a court order to access.

Break off the antenna or disconnect the battery once it’s where they want it.
@Kiernan
Inside job for sure. I’d dig into people who work there.
Ford’s security is pretty terrible for the F-150s and Raptors.
- Horn gets disconnected with a simple screwdriver from a spot in front of the radiator.
- Modem disabled by pulling a fuse or some wires. Super quick to do.
- Key fobs are always broadcasting a signal. Cheap equipment online can boost that signal, making range less of an issue.
They need to take this seriously. Maybe:
- Move the horn connector to a more protected spot.
- Put motion sensors in the fobs so they don’t broadcast when not moving.
- Make disabling the modem much harder.
There are probably even more issues, but car theft is a huge problem everywhere, not just with Ford. Maybe something should be done at the policy level to enforce stricter security standards. As someone working in cybersecurity, it scares me how easy it is to swipe a $95K truck. If automakers were liable for the thefts, they might finally do something.
