With everything going on at Stellantis, this sounds out of touch. I love my affordable little Maverick, hope Ford doesn’t mess this up.
That wasn’t even mentioned in the article.

Oops, I linked the wrong article. I was reading more on the topic, here’s the correct link: https://www.autoblog.com/news/ford-ceo-jim-farley-says-no-more-boring-cars
@willisjones
Even this article is mostly speculation. Ford stopped making those models because they didn’t sell well or they needed the space for new production. Most of these decisions were made before Farley became CEO.
It looks more like they’re focusing on what works, like the Mustang, Bronco, and F150, while still updating other models.
@Zack12
Honestly, that sounds like a smart move to me.
Ford barely has any models left.

They’ve cut the Edge and Escape, and now the Maverick’s creeping out of the affordable range. Ford’s basically becoming a budget Lincoln.
@Mia
Wait, the Escape is canceled too?

Yeah, the news came out a few months ago.

That sucks. So the Bronco Sport is the only option left before jumping to the bigger SUVs like the Bronco, Explorer, and Expedition.
@Jacob
The Escape and Bronco were pretty much rivals, it just depended on what people needed. With the Escape gone, Ford’s trying to fill that gap by raising the Maverick’s price and making the hybrid version standard.
@Mia
I get it, but they should’ve just called the Bronco Sport an Escape. The old Escapes had a similar look, and it would’ve helped keep the Bronco brand focused. It’s sad to see the Escape nameplate go after 25 years.
So they can spend money on niche cars like the Mustang, but can’t make something for the masses? Ford sold over 100,000 Fusions in 2020, even in the middle of the pandemic. Mustangs only sold 59,000 in 2023.
@Daisy
The Fusion was a solid car with a lot of options. It was right there with the Camry. Ford is making a mistake.

Quick fact check:
2020 Camry sold 300,000 units
2020 Honda Accord sold 200,000 units
2020 Ford Fusion sold 100,000 units.
Fusion was doing ‘okay’ compared to Ford’s other sedans, but it didn’t hold up against the competition. It makes sense Ford ditched sedans to focus on trucks and SUVs. They just don’t sell as well.
@Anthony
Ford announced they were killing off their sedans in 2017. By 2020, the Fusion was already on its way out, so it’s not fair to compare sales. Back in 2016, Ford sold around 250,000 Fusions. It was their third best-seller behind the F150 and Escape.
Ford just wanted the production space for more profitable trucks and SUVs. It’s all about making money, not about the cars themselves.
@Anthony
Even 100,000 units of the Fusion beats the 59,000 Mustangs sold. If Ford invested in updating the Fusion like they do the F150, it could have been a big hit. Ford has this habit of letting good models die off… like what happened with the Taurus.

I have a 2020 Fusion, and I love it. The new one they sell overseas looks amazing.
I’ve been buying Fords for 40 years, always been a Ford person. Now I don’t need a truck, don’t want an SUV, and low cars are hard on my knees. Ford just doesn’t make anything for me anymore.

You should check out the Maverick. It’s got a higher ride for easier access, feels more like an SUV inside, gets great gas mileage, and still has a bed for those rare times you might need it.
