Ford drops BlueCruise pricing… anyone else see this?

The new price is better, but I’m still on BC 1.0. I can’t justify paying for something that’s outdated, especially when they promised me the newer version last year. Until they upgrade my truck, I’m not renewing.

@Carlos
Even with the newer versions, it only works on specific highways. In my area, that’s just the interstates. They need to cut the price even more. I won’t think about it until it’s under $200 a year.

@Carlos
Yeah, same issue here. They keep saying I’ll get the latest version, but nothing yet. :expressionless:

Honestly, $400 would have been better, but at least they realized $800 was too much for something that used to be free. Why do car companies keep pushing features tied to subscriptions? I bought the truck, I should be able to use all of it.

@Umbrielle
It’s because car companies are worried about losing revenue from maintenance. EVs are cheaper to maintain, so they try to make money with subscriptions instead.

@Umbrielle
This feature requires constant updates and uses cellular networks, so it makes sense that it needs a subscription. But yeah, $69 a month was a lot. Heated seats? That’s one thing. But stuff like this, with servers and cellular data, needs to be paid for somehow.

@Simon
This tech is moving fast though. BC 1.2 added lane changes, and BC 1.3 made hands-free driving much better. It went from a gimmick to something actually useful for long drives.

Can you activate BlueCruise with Forscan?

No, it’s tied to a subscription and requires specific hardware from the factory.

@Jason
Crying over here with my 2021 Route 1 edition.

@Simon
Nope, you’re wrong. The processing happens in the truck, not on a server somewhere. The cellular connection only checks if your subscription is valid. There are no servers doing the work.

Stop confusing things. Subscriptions are just a way for them to make more money. End of story.

@Umbrielle
Well, if they’re adding value, it kind of makes sense. They have to pay for the mapping data too. Sure, it might not be worth $500 a year, but it’s still cheaper than the $10k Tesla charges up front for their system.

@Niko
Yeah, they’re adding features, but my truck is still stuck on version 1.0. They promised constant updates with the subscription model, but I haven’t seen much value for what I’m paying.

I get that. What’s your dealer saying about it? If it’s under warranty, I’d keep pushing them to get it fixed.

@Niko
They said they’d try, but it might take a week to recalibrate everything. Doesn’t sound fun, especially since they had issues with a Mach-E update.

Sounds like a pain. Hopefully, they figure it out for you.

@Umbrielle
You do realize they’re actively working on this, right? I interviewed with their team, and they’re spending a lot of money on development.

Yeah, we get that they’re still working on it. But people are tired of everything turning into a subscription service. The price cut is a market correction. It’ll sell better if they drop it to $100-$200 a year. Right now, it’s still too expensive.

Ford sells hundreds of thousands of trucks each year. They don’t need a subscription to fund development. It’s baked into the cost of the vehicle. This is all just a way for them to squeeze more money out of us.

I’d maybe consider paying for it after my 3 years runs out, but only if they actually keep it updated.

Exactly. It’s fun to use now and then, but it’s not a must-have yet. I’ll wait until it’s more like real autopilot before I spend money on it.
