I have a 2021 PB XLT and don’t know anyone else with a PB.
When I accelerate at low speeds, whether on electric or when the gas kicks in, I hear a steady whine. Is this normal?
I realize it’s a 50hp motor pulling a full-size truck, but I worry it should be silent like a Tesla. I always take my truck to my local, kinda grimy Ford dealer for all service, so they would have mentioned it if there was an issue.
If you’re driving in all-electric mode, I think a good chunk of the whine is coming from a speaker mounted under the front left side for safety. Regulators say EVs are too quiet for pedestrians, which is why you hear it—similar to the backup beep.
If the sound before the installation is what you’re hearing, that could be the problem! If not, it might just be the small electric motor doing its thing.

That could be it! I thought the FORScan hack for the reverse beep would take care of everything.
How did you do the hack?
I did the reverse mod a few years back, so I don’t recall exactly. But I found a tutorial on a forum about disabling the beep. It worked immediately, but that ‘motor’ sound continued. I’m assuming it’s mechanical and not from the speaker… I’ve ordered the part the other redditor mentioned, so we’ll see!
The electric sound has really added to my dissatisfaction with the truck. It honestly sounds like it’s low on steering fluid or transmission fluid, haha.
My '21 has the pedestrian speaker (which you say you disabled using FORScan), but I notice a noticeable whine even when I step on the brake (without even shifting out of park).
I assume that’s the starter/generator gearing up. Plus, there’s a soft motor hum when driving slowly.
