Aren’t these things all scams?

Honestly, I have no clue. This is my first car, so I’m just trying to learn a few things!

Well, some tuners from HPTuners or DiabloSport are legit, but the one you linked? Definitely a scam.
Those ‘plug & play’ chips are basically all scams. A proper tune or ECU upgrade can help, but these are just fake boxes with LEDs.

Thanks for the heads-up! I saw the ‘better MPG’ claim and thought, “Sign me up!” but yeah, glad I asked here first.
@Allison
If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is! Same logic as those miracle weight-loss ads—if it worked, everyone would be doing it.
@Allison
There’s no such thing as a free lunch, haha.
Stick to proper tunes. These chips can actually mess things up, and you won’t get much out of a 3.0 anyway.
Save your money. The 3.0 isn’t fast, and no chip will change that. If you’ve got $100 to spend, maybe get a decent stereo and enjoy the ride.
(I drive a 3.0—it’s as slow as a drunk cow, lol.)

0 to 60… eventually
@Allison
Wait till you try to hit 75. Might as well tape a brick to the gas pedal and hope for the best!

Or just drop a brick in the tank to make it ‘cheaper’ to fill up!

I’ve got a 2001 automatic 3.0, and it pulls fine up to the 90mph limiter.
@Kennedy
Yeah, I don’t get why people say the 3.0 is slow. Mine moves when I need it to!

It feels sluggish because of the transmission gearing. Once you punch it and get the RPMs up, it’s decent.

Peak torque is around 4000 RPM. People just don’t want to push it that hard.
Check your air filter, fuel filter, tire pressure, and oil. Maybe change the spark plugs. You might get a small performance boost.
Or just slap on some flame stickers—those always add at least 20HP, right?
@Lane
Flame stickers = instant 20HP per sticker. It’s science!
Those chips don’t actually do anything.
