I’ve been looking at the rear canards that RTR puts on their Spec 5. Do these actually have any real aerodynamic benefits, or are they just for style? Also, could they look good or be functional on a Shelby or a regular GT?
Anything labeled as ‘aero’ on most street cars is usually for style. Unless the car has a smooth underbody and has been specifically designed by an aerodynamic engineer, it’s not doing much. But yeah, they do look aggressive!
You should email them and ask if they have any wind tunnel testing data for the canards. If they don’t, you’ve got your answer.

That’s actually a really smart suggestion. I’ll reach out to them—thanks!
Honestly, the whole car might just take off!

I think they rivet them to the rear bumper, so they’re not going anywhere!

I meant the entire car might fly away, not just the canards!
@Cody
Agreed. A strong gust of wind and you’ll be searching for the yellow brick road!

No Mikey, no! Wait… wrong reference.
@Cody
Got it, haha! Good one!
Nothing RTR makes is functional, at least from what I’ve seen. It’s all about the looks.

To be fair, their Spec 3 is supercharged and has adjustable suspension. Plus, they offer some unique paint colors like mystichrome. That might appeal to some people.
@Skylar
True. It’s all about the appearance, but I’ll admit—it does look pretty cool.
They might make a small difference in speed or stability, but unless you’re on a racetrack, it’s more for style than anything else.
I absolutely love how they look!
