I’m thinking about getting a Ford Bronco and wanted to hear some firsthand experiences. How’s the ride, reliability, and overall feel? Any standout features or drawbacks I should know about? Would love to hear your thoughts!
I have a 2023 2-door Wildtrak with the Lux package and 18k miles. I had no prior off-road experience and was mostly into 2-door coupes. I drove it from Houston to Colorado near Guanella Pass for a car camping trip. It provided a smooth ride for the road trip and, by chance, I ended up on a Jeep Badge of Honor trail (Argentine Peak). I’m very pleased with its off-road performance; it handled most of the terrain well. The only drawback is that the windshield attracts rocks easily.
If you’re considering a Wildtrak, I highly recommend the 2023 model or newer because it comes with the upgraded HOSS 3.0 shocks.
I have a 2024 Wildtrak and absolutely love it. With less than 1,000 miles on it and no off-road experience yet, it’s been fantastic so far. Even hitting speed bumps is fun!
I have a 2022 model with just under 30K miles. Knock on wood, it’s been reliably solid. I really enjoy it. I also have a 4-door hardtop, which has mostly stayed on the pavement and hasn’t done much off-roading. It does have a few drawbacks: the screen/media center is quite glitchy, the sound system isn’t great, and it averages around 22 mpg. The AC struggles to cool the backseat in the Florida heat unless it’s on full blast. It can also be a bit noisy on the highway, making conversation difficult. Despite these issues, I love driving it and feel confident it can handle various conditions, so the smiles-to-miles ratio works for me.
I had a 2022 2-door Big Bend with the mid-package and a hardtop before I traded it in for a 4Runner. During the time I had it, I found it drove excellently and was very comfortable on the road. I took it on a few long road trips, including some over 4 hours and even 7 hours, and it was a pleasure to drive. On the highway, I got between 20-25 mpg, with an overall average of 19-20 mpg in normal or eco mode, though this dropped when I switched to KO3s. Off-road, with stock ATs, it performed exceptionally well in mud, deep sand, and narrow forest roads in California. The infotainment system was always quick to connect to CarPlay and never had issues with dropping out.
The only problem I encountered was a few weeks after getting it when I started the vehicle and received notifications that most drive features were unavailable. This is a common issue with sensors getting blocked by debris or mud, but it usually clears up on its own. There were no engine problems, and I had the 2.3L engine.
For the 4-door model, this wouldn’t be a concern, but the 2-door’s limited space was the main drawback. Once I had to accommodate a 65lb German Shepherd, it felt cramped. It would be especially tight with two people and a dog or child. However, there are now more rack and storage options available, so this might not be a major issue for many people anymore.
Overall, it’s a great SUV. Despite complaints about newer trucks having turbos, I found it to have ample power and reliability. I hope to own one again in the future, which should tell you how much I liked it.
