I just got a code P0299. The car won’t accelerate, and now I’ve got a check engine light along with the powertrain malfunction warning. Could this be related to the recall? I only got the car in January.
Go to the NHTSA website and put in your VIN number. It’ll tell you if your car is under recall.

Thanks, I checked, and it does have an open recall for the oil belt pump. Could this be what’s causing the code?
Keep us updated! Mine’s a 2020 too, and I started having issues at 24,000 miles. It’s been such a headache.
Yeah, that code can pop up if there’s low oil pressure. It messes with the turbocharger.

Thanks. I’m heading to the dealer today since I need this car for work.

Make sure to ask for a rental car.
@Brynlee
I’ve heard some people have managed to get rentals.

I had a rental from June until two weeks ago. It went smoothly, but the dealership had to organise it.

Did they actually fix the recall issue? I thought I read we’d have to wait until early 2025?
@Jesse
They replaced the engine but kept the recalled oil pump. The first pump lasted 50,000 miles, so I guess they’re hoping this one holds until early 2025 when they’ll do a proper fix. It’s running fine for now, though.
@Brynlee
Good to hear it’s driving well. Mine started acting up at 24,000 miles, so I’m not too hopeful. Let us know how they handle the pump later on.

Rentals aren’t always safer. I posted about my sister renting a 2020 Ecosport that caught fire on the first day.
I called the dealership, and they want $195 to diagnose the issue. Plus, they said I’d be without the car for 3-4 days. Is this normal?

They can’t charge you for diagnosing a recall issue. Show them the code and remind them it’s listed on the NHTSA recall.

I thought anything tied to a recall is supposed to be free?
What trim do you have? I’ve got the 2020 SE 4WD 2.0L 4-cylinder, and it’s been fine for 80,000 miles. Not my favourite car, but no issues so far.
