Anyone With a 2015 1.6? Let's Talk Issues and Costs…!

Anyone here with the 2015 1.6 version? Have you run into any engine or transmission problems? If so, what exactly happened, and how much did it cost you to fix it?

I’m dealing with a coolant leak on my 2013 1.6. It dumps everything out overnight, especially when it’s cold. So frustrating.

Finally figured it out… It’s the water control valve leaking. Tightened it a bit, but I might have to replace it.

I had the transmission rebuilt on my 2016 at 75k miles. Heavy towing near the end probably didn’t help. The repair cost me $4700.

No coolant intrusion yet (fingers crossed, I’m at 81k). I’ve heard it often happens around 150k miles, so it’s just luck.

My battery dies when it’s cold, so I keep it on a tender if it’s under 50°F.

Had issues with the PCM acting weird—lost all electronics, but disconnecting and reconnecting fixed it.

Also, the roof rack leaked, but silicone caulk on the mounts stopped that.

The EVAP system gave me a code last week (hard to start after fueling), but it was just a loose connection on my custom intake hose.

Other than that, it’s been decent!

@Claire
Have you replaced the battery recently? Mine worked fine in the cold, except the time I had to leave it in a snowbank at -40°F with the hazards on.

Yeah, I got it replaced at Ford about a year and a half ago.

@Finn
That’s a bummer. Seems like these cars are hit or miss. I got lucky with mine and didn’t know about most issues until I started looking for a replacement. Got a 2022 now, hope it holds up better.

I had a 2015 1.6L and made it to 130k miles without any major issues. Unfortunately, I hit a deer coming home from work, and the car got totaled.

I got mine with 145k kilometers (sorry, too lazy to convert). The 1st to 2nd gear shift is a bit rough sometimes, and it shakes a little when I’m stopped at lights. So far, it’s holding up. Fingers crossed!

Bought mine on a whim for $6k in June 2024. It’s a 2015 1.6L with 135k miles. Minor issues like VVT solenoids and a transmission coolant bypass valve. It once threw an overheating transmission code, which scared me. I topped up the coolant, thinking it might be coolant intrusion. Ended up adding that nasty Barr’s leak stuff, then fixed the valve later. Planning a flush soon.

I keep thinking about selling it but haven’t felt motivated yet.

I’ve got a 2014 1.6L with 117k miles. Had coolant intrusion, so a new motor cost me $3800, even though the dealership helped since I didn’t have a warranty.

Then, the transmission went out. Another $4400.

Honestly, I can’t stand this car. It’s been one issue after another.

We got a 2015 1.6 in 2021 with just under 100k miles. First two years were fine, just brakes, a water control valve, and a battery. But this year? Disaster. Transmission died at 138k, cost over $5k.

Then, in August, the engine lost power on the way home. Took it to three different shops. Ford finally got it in September but still no real answer. They think maybe turbo or catalytic converter. Expecting a $4.5k-$5k bill. Can’t even sell it because I owe too much.

I have a 2015 SE, front-wheel drive. At 170,000 kilometers, the transmission failed. Cost me $5700 to rebuild. Since then, it’s been running well. No engine issues yet, but I’m still worried.

Thanks for the replies. I was really hoping to hear more about the 2015 specifically. I’ve read that it’s the year to get, and the 2014 and 2016 are the ones to avoid.

I own a 2015 SE 1.6L. Transmission was rebuilt at 136k miles, cost over $5k. No coolant issues so far. Replaced the coolant overflow line, turbo wastegate solenoid, and coolant bypass valve myself. Shocks and struts were the only big repair I had a shop handle this year.

It’s the Eco-Boom! engine, enough said.
