Any chance Ford will bring the Everest to the United States soon?

I recently saw a picture of the new Ford Everest sport model, and I really like how it looks. Wondering if anyone knows if Ford has plans to bring it to the US? Would love to hear thoughts on this from the forum!

I don’t think so. The Everest is in the same category as the Explorer and Bronco, so I don’t see Ford offering another similar SUV. But, you could always just get a new Ranger and throw a bed cap on it.

Whoa, didn’t even think of that, but you’re right… the Everest is basically a Ranger with a covered bed!

Exactly. The Everest is to the Ranger what the 4Runner is to the Tacoma.

Yeah, but keep in mind the Everest is a 7-seater, not a 5-seater like the 4Runner. Its main competitor is more like the Toyota Fortuner, which is also a 7-seater but more focused on comfort than off-roading like the 4Runner.

You can get a 4Runner with a third row, so it can also seat 7 people.

True, you can get a 7-seat 4Runner, but it’s still more off-road focused, while the Fortuner is geared more for street use.

Here’s a picture I found online: https://placehold.co/600x400.png

@Reuben
Honestly, it doesn’t look bad. But I’d still probably go for an Expedition over this.

That’s kind of how the Explorer used to be built.

Isn’t this kind of what the Bronco is supposed to be now?

According to Ford, while the Bronco shares a platform with the Ranger, it’s still different from the Everest in many ways.

The Bronco is more of a 5-seater off-roader, while the Everest is a family SUV with 7 seats. They’re designed for different purposes. The Bronco is 4WD-only, and the Everest even comes in 2WD options.

I think the Explorer is more comparable in the US market.

Not really. The Explorer is a car-based SUV, while the Everest is truck-based, which is more rugged for rougher conditions.

I don’t think most people care about that difference.

People in countries with tough road conditions definitely care about the ruggedness of a truck-based platform. That’s why the Everest does well in those markets. There’s also a group of people in the US who prefer true SUVs over crossovers. Like, a 4Runner buyer isn’t going to be satisfied with a RAV4 for off-roading.

Exactly, my point is that the Everest fills a niche that Ford’s current US lineup doesn’t. That’s why it’s worth discussing whether it would make sense to bring it here.
