Hi everyone, I’m new to Fords after switching from Rams. I have a few questions:
What are the pros and cons of leveling my 2021 XLT 4WD?
What’s the best kit to use? I had issues with spacers on my Rams, so I replaced them with Bilstein 5100 lift struts and aftermarket control arms, which worked well. I see Rough Country has a strut/spring kit—has anyone used it?
I was told I needed control arms with a leveling kit on my Ram. Do I need them for a 2.0" to 2.5" lift on the Fords?
They offer several leveling kits. I used one of their kits on my truck, and it made a big difference and rides really well. I’ve also had several lifted Rams before.
You can install a 2" lift kit without changing the control arms. I have a ProComp 2" lift kit and 33" tires on my 2021 truck. Just keep in mind that if your truck has Co-Pilot 360, it might cause issues with the front camera behind the mirror (not the one in the front emblem). I’m working on fixing some problems I’m having with it right now.
I’m new to the F150 after having a RAM (which was way better than Ford’s options back then!).
I just installed the Vertex Rough Country leveling kit with adjustable shocks, and I’m happy with it so far. The adjustability is great—setting 1 feels like stock, while setting 8 is very firm. The instructions are poor, so use Fox’s instructions instead. I ended up with about 3 inches of lift in the front, but I might lower it once I put on 34.5-inch tires and check the clearances. The stock control arm seems fine and doesn’t limit travel at this height. I used a spring compressor instead of removing the lower hub and dealing with the hub actuators.
I wasn’t going to spend $4K on Fox or Icon shocks, but at $2K, the RC Vertex seems like a good deal. If you’re on a tight budget, I’d go with a cheaper spacer lift.
How do you like the ride quality with the Vertex? Did you choose the 3” lift? I’m thinking about this setup for my 2022 and want to know more about the ride quality. Did you install the Vertex on both the front and rear? Thanks!
Thanks for all the replies. I’ve always liked how leveled trucks look. I’m only planning to go up one or two tire sizes and I like my stock wheels. I tow a trailer with two side-by-sides, so I wouldn’t mind if the front is a bit lower. I had a problem with my Ram—after leveling it, the headlights ended up blinding people and the front sat higher than the back, which caused some issues when towing.
