2014 F-150 3.5L with 250K Miles… Should I Take the Risk?

Thinking about buying a 2014 F-150 3.5L Ecoboost with 250K miles. It looks super clean, and if I can get it to 300K, I’d be happy.

I’ve got oil change records every 3,500-5,000 miles, and it seems like mostly highway miles. No major damage, just a small ding on the tailgate.

What do you guys think? Worth it, or am I setting myself up for a headache?

Depends on how it was used.

Was it a work truck hauling heavy loads every day with oil changes every 10K miles? Or was it a highway cruiser with regular maintenance?

Looks like mostly highway miles. Super clean truck, just one small ding, and I have oil change records every 3,500-5K miles.

@Kendall
That’s a good sign. But at 250K miles, you gotta be ready for big repairs—transmission, cam phasers, timing chain, etc.

If the deal is good and you’ve got some backup cash for repairs, maybe it’s worth it.

@Kendall
Try to get a full service history. If you can list what’s already been replaced, I can tell you what’s still solid and what might need work soon.

Man, 250K miles is a lot. But if the previous owner took care of it, that changes things.

Yeah, if it looks this good after 250K, the owner probably babied it.

Did they ever change the transmission fluid and filter? That’s a big one at this mileage.

Only oil change records? No history on transmission, differentials, or transfer case?

I’d be worried about the turbos at this mileage too.

Here’s a quick test: Let it idle after warming up. If you smell coolant, the turbo coolant lines are probably leaking.

Also, when you say you have oil change records, do you mean actual receipts, or just a list of dates and miles?

@Lachlan
Just a list of dates and miles. No receipts.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I’m gonna pass on this one.

Too many unknowns, and those turbos worry me. Probably not worth the gamble at this mileage.

At 250K miles, that truck is on **borrowed time. I wouldn’t expect much more out of it.

Appreciate all the input! Decision made—I’m walking away. Just too many potential issues.
