Why do you think the 1997 Cobra gets such a bad rap among Mustang fans? I really love mine
Any Cobra is a good thing, no matter the era! People often overlook the difference in performance going from the 5.0 to the 4.6 engine, even with its power gains.
Honestly, I don’t trust anyone who can’t appreciate a '97 Cobra. There are tons of fans out there. I remember when the '94 came out; it was super popular. People these days are just spoiled by the Coyotes and see the SN95 body as “slow SOHC mod motor” instead. Oh, and greetings from Fort Worth!
Hey, what a small world haha
Absolutely! The '96, '97, and '98 Cobras are my favorites, along with the '95 Cobra R. Such amazing cars. I can’t wait to get started on my '68 coupe after this
Right on! I have a '66 Fastback. You should check out the Camp Bowie cruise at the Sonic on the west side, it’s the last Saturday of every month at 6:00 PM. It’s a great crowd with lots of cool cars.
Sounds awesome, I’ll definitely try to make it. I don’t get out much these days; feels like I’m always working Maybe I’ll borrow my dad’s '55 F100 lol. Used to be good meets around here, but they’ve faded a bit lately.
A '56 F100 would be great too! There’s actually a Facebook group for the cruise if you’re interested.
Send me a link to the Facebook group and I’ll join. I’m not really into social media, but that sounds cool. My '68 isn’t running yet; I’m still working on the body. It was an impulse buy lol.
I totally agree. Back in high school, everyone was buying SN95s. They were really popular.
Just to clarify, the '97 Cobra had a DOHC 4.6 engine, which replaced the 5.0 from the '94-'95 models.
Exactly, I know that firsthand. My point is that many people don’t realize those details and just think of the '96-'98 GT instead.
I had a '93 Cobra and a '97 Cobra back in the '90s. They were awesome. The '97 had 553 rwhp with just an S-trim and a few mods. It had a full Griggs suspension too. I kind of regret selling both. Now I have a '21 GT500, and it’s the best Mustang I’ve ever owned. And you’re right; the SOHC GTs were rough.
