Why are the fuses in my Ford Fusion so much smaller than the regular ones?

Hey everyone, I was working on my Ford Fusion and noticed that the fuses are much smaller than the regular ones. Can anyone explain why this is? They seem to be different from what I’m used to seeing in other cars.

There are different size fuses. One is a mini fuse and the other is a micro fuse.

There are different sizes of fuses out there. It can be frustrating since some are very close in size. I once grabbed the wrong one at the parts store because I didn’t bring the old one with me.

I dropped the fuse I was replacing, and the car ate it. I ripped up the carpet but still couldn’t find it. The store only had these, so I thought they were a one-size-fits-all. Excuse me while I veer into traffic.

@Nicholas
Haha, I used to think there were just the old big fuses and newer small ones. Turns out there are a bunch of different sizes. Once I just bought a multipack from Amazon for like $10, and it has every size and amperage. I’ll probably never use most of them, though.

@Rohan
I bought a pack for all my vehicles too. It’s nice to have a variety on hand, plus you can help others if needed.

Good idea!

@Nicholas
Did you check your fuse box for spares?

No, I didn’t have any 20 amp spares :frowning: I even tried using the one for the subwoofer, but my base model doesn’t have one, so it just made the speakers sound bad.

@Nicholas
You can check your manual. Find the fuse you lost and it’ll tell you its size and amperage.

The smaller fuses are used because they fit into tighter spaces but still work fine for regular use. Larger fuses are typically used in situations where more power or durability is needed. The size of the fuse doesn’t affect its functionality as long as it’s the right type.

There are a few different fuse sizes in cars. I believe you’re dealing with mini and micro fuses. Hope this helps! Here’s a guide on how to identify your fuse size: Fuse size identification

You can tell it’s smaller because of the way it looks.

Give him a break, it was probably cold outside.

Wait till you get to the newer stuff with the 3-legged fuses.

My F150 has three-legged fuses.
