I have a 2017 F-150, and the stock tires need replacing. I’m thinking about getting Cooper tires after installing a Readylift 2.25" spacer level. I’m trying to choose between two sizes: 295/60/R20 and 285/65/R20. I think the 285/65/R20 is a bit narrower but has a taller sidewall. Is that right? Also, the 285/65/R20 is quite a bit cheaper—why is that? Any other advice?
The first number on a tire is the width in millimeters, and the second number is the sidewall height as a percentage of the width. So a 295/60R20 tire has a diameter of 33.9 inches, a width of 11.6 inches, and a sidewall height of 7.0 inches. A 285/65R20 tire has a diameter of 34.6 inches, a width of 11.2 inches, and a sidewall height of 7.3 inches. The 285 tire is usually cheaper because it’s a standard size for many vehicles, creating a larger market, while the 295 is often aftermarket only.
You might also want to rethink the 2.25" spacer lift. Most people say that 2" is the maximum you should go, as more can cause issues with your CV angles.
Thanks Gary for this wonderful piece of information.
Woow!,they look real nice on 285/65/R20. Do you suggest I proceed with this?
I was looking for tires a few months ago and was amazed at the mixed reviews. I think driving conditions and tire sizes and weights may play a role in that.
