Which generation of Ford Ranger is the best?

When I was looking, I aimed for 2005-2009 models because they seemed to have fewer issues. 2010+ introduced traction control which some people don’t like.

98-00 is my pick.

Thanks for the insight!

I had a ‘92 with the 4.0 V6, and it was a beast. Moved on to newer models but still miss that one.

Love the square body styles! My gen 3 is holding up just fine.

Big fan of my 2004 XLT, looks great.

The early ones are cool, but I think the FX4 Level II was the best they got. The 2010 models are solid, but newer ones have traction control that can be annoying in snow.

For snow, go with the 2011 4WD.

Got a first-gen, 2WD 4-cylinder… never letting it go.

I’ve got an ‘03 4x4 with the 4.0 auto, and it’s been great. Small, but it gets the job done.

‘95 Ranger Splash.

Check YouTube and other places for common issues by year. A1 Auto on YouTube is a good resource for common problems.

I’d go with a third-gen for practicality. Parts are still easy to find, and they’re all over the road.

I think the ‘86 was rated most reliable, if I’m remembering right.

98-08 with the 3.0 regular cab. The 4-cylinders get better mileage, but the V6 versions are often cleaner with fewer miles.
