You’ll get more power from 93. Boosted engines should always run premium.
Look for top-tier branded fuel. That’s more important than octane if you want to keep your engine clean.
If you’re concerned about cleanliness, add a bottle of Techron to a full tank every few months. The octane won’t matter as much.
Running 87 can cause a 20% power loss compared to 91 or 93, plus you risk pre-detonation and pinging. I always run 93 and stay away from engine cleaners like Seafoam. That stuff can break off carbon deposits and damage the turbo.
@Hollis
Where’s this 20% figure coming from?
Check out this article: https://www.caranddriver.com/features/a28565486/honda-cr-v-vs-bmw-m5-ford-f-150-dodge-charger/
Scroll down to the F-150 part, and you’ll see the power loss when switching from 93 to 87. People underestimate the difference.
@Hollis
It’s not a 20% drop; it’s 20hp. So, about 5%, not 20.

Ah, gotcha. So more like 12%?

No, it’s 5%. The math checks out.
