What’s this hole for on my truck?

Got a used 2022 F-250 and just noticed this random hole. Anyone know what it’s for? Appreciate any help!

Sometimes the block heater plug is zip-tied near that area. Maybe the previous owner made a spot for it to sit neatly. Check around—it could be close by.

It’s actually a 7.3 gas engine, not a 6.7. I have no idea why I wrote that. It might have a block heater, but the window sticker doesn’t mention one. Plus, it spent its whole life in Phoenix, so it wouldn’t even be needed.

@Jasper
I have a factory block heater, and the plug is routed near the tow hooks, not through a separate hole. If it was for a block heater, it was probably aftermarket. No idea why someone would go through all that trouble and then remove it.

@Jasper
Gas engines can use block heaters too in freezing temps. I plug in my 6.2 when it’s below zero—it helps with startup and gets the oil flowing faster.

Yeah, Phoenix rarely drops below 35 these days. I’m in northern Arizona now, and it does get into single digits, but still not THAT cold.

@Jasper
Maybe the previous owner moved from a colder area and then sold the truck down there?

Nope, all records show it’s been in Phoenix its whole life.

Is there a hole on the other side too, or just this one? If there’s two, maybe it was for a light bar.

I was thinking maybe an air chuck or something was mounted there.

Just on one side.

Or maybe machine guns.

Looking at the shape and screw holes, it seems like the previous owner had a plug there, maybe for a block heater. Some trucks have an outlet so you can just plug in an extension cord instead of messing with loose cables. But it looks like it was removed.

Could also be a plug for a winch or aftermarket lights. Hard to say since you weren’t the original owner.

If you want to cover it, you could use a block-off plate, a dummy plug, or even a rubber grommet (but that won’t cover the screw holes).

@Penelope
So many possibilities lol. I really doubt it was a block heater since it’s been in Arizona for 30K miles. No lights were ever installed on the front as far as I can tell. And yeah, it’s a 7.3, not a 6.7—got diesel on my brain lmao.

I was thinking maybe an air chuck? No idea. I’ll figure out something to put there.

@Jasper
Yeah, probably not a block heater then :joy:

Really hard to say what it was for…

It’s about $40…

Dude, if I could shake your hand, I would. Thanks!

Maybe it had a construction strobe light?

I thought about that, but it’s only on one side.

Maybe they installed one, didn’t like it, and gave up. It’s just a cosmetic issue. But knowing Ford, you’d probably have to replace the whole bumper to fix it. Honestly, I doubt anyone would even notice unless you pointed it out.
