I was driving on the freeway at about 60-70 mph when suddenly I heard a loud woosh. I pulled over and found my sunroof completely missing. I own a 2011 Ford Edge Limited and have had issues in the past with the sunroof not closing properly. I took it to a mechanic who permanently shut the sunroof and disconnected the system, but now this happened. Any advice? Has anyone else gone through something like this? Is the glass completely gone or hidden somewhere in the roof?
This is probably the craziest thing I have seen on this forum
Yeah, that glass is definitely gone. Hope it didn’t cause a problem for other drivers.

I hope not. No one pulled over after or in front of me, and I was on the side of the freeway for a good ten minutes.
The person who closed it or fixed it likely didn’t secure something right in my opinion. Or maybe both slides were completely broken before they closed it for good.

This was a common problem with E-Class Mercedes sunroofs. Seems like it has the same design flaws, and there could be a recall coming soon because it’s really dangerous for pieces of heavy tempered glass to fly off on the freeway.
Well, it does come with the Limited package. The Full package doesn’t have this issue.

This made me laugh out loud.
That’s the first time I’ve ever heard of this happening.
As long as no one got hurt, that’s pretty funny. Sorry though!
Yeah, that glass is gone, my friend. Either the problem you had before or the fix caused something to come loose and the sunroof left your car in the wind. You’re lucky it didn’t hit anyone. You should have it fixed properly.
You should probably get an umbrella.
Just another reason to not get a sunroof.
They must have subcontracted that part out to Boeing that year.
You should get them to cover this completely. Might sound a bit silly but don’t agree it’s fine when it’s flying off your car at high speeds.

This is a 14-year-old car. An insurance claim is the best route.
@Chase
Not if a mechanic loosened it so it flies off. That’s a small claims court matter too.

When they said it was disabled at the mechanic, they probably just helped the sunroof close with a ratchet and then unplugged the motor or the switch.

What exactly did the mechanic do to cause this, and what proof do you have?
@Peter
They disconnected the system and stuff. Proper repairs were missed anyway.
