What car seat do Mustang dads recommend?

Hey fellow Mustang dads, what car seat are you all using? :baby_bottle: I’ve got a 2017 GT and I’m a pretty new dad. My little one is almost a year old, and for now, the baby carrier’s still working fine. But I know we’ll need to switch to a rear-facing car seat soon with the latch system. Anyone have recommendations that fit well? I’m not ready to give up my Mustang yet.

Just put the kid in the trunk. :joy:

That’s what my SUV is for. My oldest can start using a front-facing seat in the Mustang this year, so we’ll see how that goes. :crossed_fingers:

Dad of four here. I’ll be honest, there’s no easy answer. All rear-facing seats are a pain in the butt, especially in a Mustang. Even though we’ve got a family car, there are times like today when I had to take my 3- and 4-year-olds out in my EcoBoost ‘cause the van’s in the shop. The car seats barely fit, and it’s definitely a squeeze. It’s doable, but uncomfortable. Just focus on getting a seat that’s safe, because whatever you pick, it’s going to be tricky to get your little one in and out until you both find a routine.

You don’t need to give up your GT if you’re okay with a little inconvenience. But if you’re thinking of having more kids, it might be worth considering a second car.

Yeah, my wife’s got an Explorer, so we’re covered there. Right now, the baby fits fine in the smaller seat with the latch base. I’m just thinking ahead to when we need a bigger rear-facing one.

I used to be a certified child safety seat tech. You don’t actually have to use the latch system for rear-facing seats if that’s your concern. A good seat with a belt lock might work better for you. You’re right, the Mustang’s back seats aren’t ideal for rear-facing seats, but once your little one is around a year old, they can use a front-facing seat. Rear-facing is preferred for as long as possible since it offers more protection in a crash, though.

I switched from the carrier straight to front-facing. Unless your baby’s in a super small carrier, they might be ready for front-facing before they outgrow it completely.

Rear-facing seats suck no matter what you drive… even in bigger cars or SUVs. But I managed it with a Camaro and my son (and I’m 6’5”!). When my second kid came along, though, I traded in the Camaro. Once my son was old enough to sit in the front, I got my Mustang and just used booster seats. To be honest, even when I had a bigger car, we always used my wife’s van for family trips. Now, I’ve got an old Jeep Liberty for running around with the kids.
