What are the differences between the Lariat and Platinum trims?

I’m looking at two trucks with similar mileage and options, but one is a Platinum and the other is a Lariat. Since their features are almost the same, I’m wondering if there are any other differences between them that might make one better than the other. I’m also thinking about adding upgrades like power mirrors or new suspension in the future. What should I consider?

The Platinum has Multi-Contour front seats with massage, heat, and cooling, while the Lariat only has heated and cooled seats. The Platinum also has heated rear seats with inflatable safety belts as standard, and lighted scuff plates, real wood inserts, and standard BLIS and LED headlamps. The Lariat offers some of these features as options. Both trucks have power fold mirrors. The Platinum also includes a smoker’s package and has different badging. Otherwise, both trucks have similar optional equipment.

A well-equipped Lariat 502A with the Tech Package is quite similar to the Platinum, except for the badging and the Multi-Contour front seats.

The Platinum has a few things you can’t get on the Lariat, like its badging, leather, and wood trim. The same goes for the King Ranch.

Does the “smoker’s package” on any trim level come with an electric lighter, or just the plastic cup ashtray?

The biggest thing about the Platinum is the sense of superiority it gives. The only thing that might make a Platinum owner feel less special is if they get a Limited. Just like a Spoon decal might add 40 hp to a Honda, a big “PLATINUM” badge on the tailgate makes the owner feel like they’re showing off.

Haha, I don’t like the big Platinum badge on the back, so I might look for a smaller “Platinum” text to replace it.

If I could get all the options I want, I’d probably choose an XLT. But it seems like there are a few more options or features I didn’t know about or think of.

I think the Platinum has nicer leather on the seats, steering wheel, and other parts as compared to Lariat.

I’ve never liked wood grain in my vehicles, so I guess that keeps me looking at the XLT.

I can overlook the fake wood because having 4A is really useful here.

Same here. I don’t like wood grain, but the black wood in the Platinum is subtle and blends in. I was set on getting a Lariat until I saw the seats and felt the leather in the Platinum.

Has anyone put vinyl over the wood? It seems like a simple fix for small areas, but I’m not sure if I like the wood or not.

What are these scuff plates you’re talking about? I have a Platinum, and unless I’m missing something, mine aren’t lighted.

The scuff plates are at the bottom of the door opening. My mistake—only the Limited has lighted ones.
