I’m looking to get my first car and I’m considering a 2015 Ford Focus S (automatic). I’ve read mixed reviews, especially about the transmission. Is it reliable or should I look for something else?
If it’s the automatic, I’ve only heard bad things about the transmission. The manual ones are usually much better.
I have a 2012 automatic with 145k miles. Biggest issue so far was the AC going out a few months back. Had some minor problems but nothing major. The transmission did need new clutches and seals, but luckily the dealer covered that.
Don’t buy it.

I bought one used for $5000 with 82k miles. It was a single-owner car with all service and recalls done. Drove it for 8 months, then the transmission failed. Ford wouldn’t fix it without $8000. I shopped around but the cheapest repair was $5000 with a 90-day warranty. Ended up selling it for $1800 and told the buyer about the issues. He thought he could fix it.
Stay away if it’s the automatic with the DCT transmission. It’s just not worth it.
Had one, and the transmission was replaced under warranty, but even when it worked, it overheated in heavy traffic. Parts are hard to find too. I’d avoid it.
Only consider it if it’s the manual version.
No. Just no.
Nope.
Avoid any MK3 Focus with an automatic transmission. They’re just not worth the trouble.
