Thinking about buying a Raptor, thoughts?

Hey everyone, I’m new to this forum and wanted to ask for some advice.

I’m seriously thinking about getting a Ford Raptor, but my current Toyota isn’t cutting it anymore. Been looking at 2018-2020 models with mileage ranging from 40k to 66k. Dealers are asking between $45k and $66k.

I found a 2019 model for $46k with 66,000 miles. Does that sound fair? Or is it overpriced? I know there are some common issues like cam phasers, and I’d rather avoid costly repairs.

Would love to hear some honest, no-nonsense opinions!

Hard to say without more details. It’s not just about the mileage; maintenance history matters a lot.

You want the truth? Just buy it and make sure to share some photos here. That’s what we’re all here for!

I got my 2020 with the 802a package, 30k miles, and an extended warranty for $52k. It’s been totally worth it. Just keep an eye on things like shocks and cam phasers. You’ll love it.

That price sounds pretty normal. It really depends on what upgrades it has, though.

If you’re financing, at $46k your payments will be steep, maybe around $1k a month with current rates. If you’re already considering something pricier, maybe a new one would make more sense. But if you’re paying cash, then go with what feels right.

Seems decent. I’m actually eyeing a 2019 with the 802a package that has 104k miles for $41k.

104k miles on a 2019? That’s a lot!

Yeah, but the cam phasers have already been replaced. Plus, it’s got a Cobb intake, intercooler, upgraded wheels, and it drives really well.

I think it’s worth it if the maintenance has been done, but I’d check everything thoroughly.

Personally, I’d go for a Gen 3, but as long as the mileage isn’t too high and the truck has been taken care of, a Gen 2 can still be a solid choice.

Honestly, if you have the budget, just put the money down on a Gen 3 (2021+). The interior is nicer, the ride is smoother, and they don’t have as many problems.

I had a Gen 2 and within a year of buying it at 60k miles, I had to fix the cam phasers, rebuild the transmission, and get the shocks redone. Amazing trucks, but it can be expensive if issues come up.

Thanks for the input, everyone! I really don’t want to end up spending a ton on repairs. Looks like it’s Gen 3 or go all-in on a built Gen 2. The truck market here is nuts, though…

If you decide to go for it, look into getting the Ford Protect ESP for coverage. You can get it way cheaper from places like Ziegler or Granger Ford online.

That price doesn’t sound bad, but do your homework on it.
